Born in 1977 in Arad, Gabriel Almași graduated from the West University of Timișoara’s Faculty of Music, majoring in Music Pedagogy (1996-2001) and then studied composition with Remus Georgescu. He continued his studies in composition for four more years at the National University of Music Bucharest, class of Prof. Dan Dediu (2002-2006). He also worked with prodigious musicians, such as Aurel Stroe, Ștefan Niculescu, Doina Rotaru, Michael Obst, Ari Ben-Shabetai, Kevin Ernste (Cornell University, New York) and Gregory Mertl (Syracuse University, New York). In 2012 he completed his PhD in Music with the thesis A Theory of Electronic Instrumentsunder the supervision of Prof. Octavian Nemescu. His creation includes works for solo instruments, for chamber and orchestral ensembles. He composed in different musical genres, including scenic and electroacoustic music. His works have been performed in USA, Germany, The Netherlands, Hungary and England. Gabriel Almași is currently teaching at the Faculty of Music and Theatre, West Unversity of Timișoara.
